Global Commitments
After its approval and finalization in 2000, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has shaped the global development agenda and financing for the period of 15 years to promote economic growth and to alleviate poverty. Specific indicators were set to achieve the 8 goals of MDGs. Monitoring the effectiveness of financing for development over time has been the key agenda for all stakeholders to ensure the attainment of the MDGs. All development actors including governments of developing and developed countries, development partners and agencies, NGOs/CSOs, and private sectors have been convened to discuss about the directions of development financing, and to identify the common issues for managing official development assistance (ODA) in a more effective and efficient manner in sequencing events including Monterrey Consensus in 2002, Paris Declaration in 2005, Accra Agenda for Action in 2008, Busan High Level Forum in 2011, and recently Addis Ababa in 2015.

Since MDGs will come to an end in 2015, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a successive document of MDGs, have also been discussed in Addis Ababa to frame the global development and its financing to respond to the needs of the people, and were finally approved in UN submit in New York in September, 2015. Although the indicators of SDGs is currently being discussed and set, 17 goals and 169 targets have been identified and approved as benchmarks for the next 15 years.

The roles of NGOs/CSOs in relation to the development effectiveness including development cooperation have been recognized through the participation of these global events and consideration of the comments into the global policies.
